The NFL can pull Atlanta's October 11 Sunday night window by Tuesday, and it has to decide before this team has played one national game all year. The league is weighing an 0-2 team that has scored 16 points in two games, and I still think it keeps the window.
This team keeps getting judged before anybody has seen it. Now the league gets its turn.
Three straight night windows on three networks, and Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that the last one, Baltimore at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 11, can be flexed out of Sunday night. Decision due Tuesday, September 29. One outlet, no league statement, nothing decided.
A flex would not erase the game. The NFL's published procedures move a flexed-out night game to Sunday afternoon, so Baltimore still comes to Atlanta. Everything above that floor is a judgment about this team.
The case for pulling it: 0-2, 16 points in two games, and the worst point differential in the division at minus 38.
The case against it is the part nobody checked. Entering tonight, Atlanta is 7-3 in night games since 2024 and has won the last two. That is Tilt's count, rebuilt game by game.
Sports Illustrated's Gerald Thomas, III, defends the slate, then writes: "And even if Atlanta wets the bed before the national audience, it makes for some good TV." That is a defense of the programming, not the team.
I put it in writing Sunday that Cooper Rush does not take the first snap at Lambeau. Michael Penix Jr. starts tonight. None of that settles Tuesday.
Labelled as a prediction: they leave it alone. I'm 66% sure the game stays on Sunday night. The reporter who raised it says an early flex is rare. The league gets only two Sunday night flexes across Weeks 5 through 10, and this is the first week it can spend one. Lamar Jackson is the draw that rule protects.
The rest of my doubt kicks off at 8:15 tonight. The league is watching the same game you are.
