A loss at Wrigley on Monday night, a manager's sentence in print by 11:21, and a roster that had not caught up by dawn. Here is your Tuesday: the Braves lead, the Falcons' two Monday sentences, a Hawks move ESPN's feed has not logged, and a Portland week for Atlanta United.

Braves

Chicago 7, Atlanta 3 in game one, and Ellis has the box and the bullpen. What is new arrived after that piece filed. Late Monday night, Walt Weiss told reporters that Reynaldo López, lifted after three innings, had shoulder discomfort, and that "there is a good chance he's going to end up on the IL." MLB Trade Rumors names The Athletic's Jesús Cano among the reporters Weiss told. As of 7:33 this morning MLB's transactions feed for Atlanta carries no such move, and López is listed as active. Headed to the list, not on it, and that distinction is the only thing the feed can tell you today.

The replacement is already on the schedule. MLB's feed lists JR Ritchie as Wednesday's starter against Shota Imanaga while the same league's roster page still reads "Reassigned to Minors" beside his name; per SI's account, Weiss said Ritchie is scheduled to come up and throw on Wednesday. Ellis's September 9 line was "One quality start in twelve is not an October starter." He files the rotation ledger today, the last eleven games and what Ritchie's innings are being asked to hold. Tonight is game two, 7:40 at Wrigley: Martín Pérez, 8-9 with a 3.08 ERA and seven scoreless innings against Tampa Bay in his last start, against Kevin Gausman, 9-12 and 4.60, who is 4-2 in seven starts since Chicago acquired him from Toronto in early August. The row: 88-63, first in the East, four and a half clear of Philadelphia, eleven to play. The magic number is seven by MLB's count. Philadelphia play tonight too, at Washington at 6:45. The Cubs are 84-67 and hold the first wild-card line.

Falcons

Da'Shawn Hand's season is over, per the club, a quad injury expected to require surgery; Miles has what his roster spot is worth. Chris Lindstrom is entering the concussion protocol, also per the club. The first practice report of the week comes Wednesday, and nothing before it counts as a designation.

The two sentences that did arrive on Monday came from opposite directions. Ian Rapoport, on NFL Network, as Bleacher Report transcribed it: the Falcons "would like Michael Penix to be their starting quarterback when he is healthy, when he is ready." On Tua Tagovailoa, from the same report: "generally, for a throwing position, it's not usually one week." Kevin Stefanski, the same afternoon, had "no updates" on either, as Pro Football Talk quoted him via multiple reporters, and the club's own Monday page says he did not provide an update on either's status heading into Week 2. Carolina come to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday at 1:00, both clubs 0-1. DraftKings, via ESPN, had Carolina by a point and a half at 6:52 this morning, having opened with Atlanta favored by the same margin.

Hawks

Two Monday moves, neither on ESPN's transactions feed yet. The Hawks signed center Will Baker, per Hoops Rumors citing a club release, and ESPN's roster page already carries him at number 9. Devin Carter, waived on Friday, agreed an Exhibit 10 deal with Boston, also per Hoops Rumors; he cleared waivers rather than being claimed, which closes the item this brief opened on Sunday. Baker makes three listed centers alongside Jock Landale and Henri Veesaar, and the first evidence on which of the three matters arrives October 5 against Memphis at State Farm Arena, 7:00, the preseason opener. What I will watch: which of the three is on the floor first, and which is on it last. League-wide, camps open September 29 by the NBA's calendar.

Atlanta United

No match until Saturday, nothing on the club's site about Portland week, and nobody in the East plays before New York City host the Red Bulls on Friday night. So, Portland. At Providence Park this month they beat Minnesota 5-4 and drew 2-2 with St. Louis. They have conceded four and two in those two home games and lost neither, which tells you what kind of night Atlanta's back line is being invited to. Kickoff Saturday is 10:30 PM Eastern, on Apple TV.

One more thing.

Two clubs, two Monday announcements, zero postings. The Braves' manager said "a good chance" of the injured list for López; the Falcons' head coach said the rest of the season for Hand. As of 7:33 this morning neither move exists on a transactions feed, and the Hawks' Monday signing, per Hoops Rumors, is on ESPN's roster page before it is on ESPN's transaction log. Atlanta's news ran a day ahead of its paperwork. The paperwork will catch up. The news will not wait for it.
