Nothing happened overnight. Two things happen today: the Falcons' first practice report of Week 2 out of Flowery Branch, alongside a Kevin Stefanski availability whose billing was edited on Tuesday, and a lineup card at Wrigley for 7:40 with a recalled rookie listed on it. You have last night's Atlanta 6, Chicago 3 and the López posting already; this is a Wednesday defined by what has not been said yet — a starter, a lineup, a name on a transactions feed.

Falcons

The week turned on an edit. At 10:11 Tuesday morning, Josh Kendall of The Athletic posted that the club had updated its media advisory: the old one listed "Starting QB press conference" for Wednesday, the new one "QB Cooper Rush press conference". Steve Wyche of NFL Network checked with the team before noon and was told it listed Rush "based on no new information"; his own word for Rush was "placeholder." Pro Football Talk headlined it as the signs pointing, for now, to Rush on Sunday, and Heavy was among at least six outlets that read the same starter out of the same edit.

The club's own unofficial Week 2 depth chart, posted at 4:38 Tuesday afternoon, has Tua Tagovailoa first and Rush second, the quarterback row unchanged from Week 1, and its only quarterback sentence is Stefanski's from Monday, that he needed to get through the day before that decision could be made. As of 8:02 this morning no starter has been named on the club's news index (nothing dated Wednesday; each Tuesday post read), on that depth chart, or on ESPN's Falcons feed, whose newest item is a league-wide Week 2 piece in which ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, at 6:30 this morning, hedged: Rush starting another week "wouldn't be shocking," and the Thursday game in Week 3 is a reason not to hurry Michael Penix Jr. back.

What today produces is the club's first Week 2 practice report, the first participation labels for Tagovailoa, Penix Jr., Chris Lindstrom and Billy Bowman Jr., the last of those ruled out of Week 1 as he returns from last November's Achilles injury. The report does not exist yet, and no Week 2 label exists for any of the four until it does. Miles wrote Tuesday that it names participation, not a starter; the evening desk has it once it is out. Dex filed this morning on the calendar instead: Carolina on Sunday at 1:00 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Green Bay on Thursday the 24th at Lambeau Field four days later, then eleven days before New Orleans, so by his reading whoever starts Sunday starts Thursday. Da'Shawn Hand's injured-reserve move was still not posted as of 8:02 this morning.

Braves

Ellis has last night, and tonight tests the claim he closed with: "Six runs on three swings is a good night, not evidence that the offense travels." Game three at Wrigley, 7:40, series 1-1. JR Ritchie, recalled Tuesday, is listed opposite Shota Imanaga. Ritchie's major-league line this season: 14 games, eight of them starts, 58 innings, a 4.50 ERA, and no appearance since August 2. Imanaga: 29 starts, 10-10, 3.88, six innings and two runs against Pittsburgh on Friday. The row at 8:02: 89-63, first; Philadelphia 83-68, five and a half back and at Washington at 6:45 tonight; ten to play for Atlanta, eleven for Philadelphia; five by MLB's count. Milwaukee are 94-57 with the Central clinched and Los Angeles 92-59 with a postseason berth. The only Braves rows dated Wednesday on MLB's transactions feed are three number changes: Chris Sale, Brent Suter and Mauricio Dubón are back to 51, 39 and 14 after Clemente Day.

Hawks

ESPN's transaction log for the Hawks tells this offseason by month. July added guards: Aaron Wiggins from Oklahoma City on the 6th, then Ryan Nembhard and Luguentz Dort on the 19th in the three-team trade that sent Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas. September has only subtracted: Devon Higgs waived on the 9th, Keyshawn Bryant on the 10th, Devin Carter and Lamont Butler on the 11th. Nothing has been added to that log since the 11th, and the club's own news listing is no newer than the 10th as of this morning. The question the log leaves for October 5, the preseason opener against Memphis at State Farm Arena at 7:00, is which of the July additions is in the first five.

Atlanta United

Under this season's format the top seven in each conference qualify automatically and the eighth hosts the ninth in a single match on November 18, per the league. Portland sit eighth in the West on 32 points from 25, two clear of San Diego, with one win in their last five. Saturday at Providence Park, 10:30 PM Eastern, is a match Portland need for that line. Atlanta have nine matches left, two of them on Wednesdays and the last of them at Red Bull Arena on Decision Day, November 7, and sit nine points from ninth in the East today, with the ninth-place club holding a game in hand. One more thing.

The lineup card at Wrigley with Ritchie's name in the pitching column will be posted hours before 7:40.
