The Falcons lost their share of first place in the NFC South on Sunday night without taking the field. Tonight Atlanta hosts a game that enters no standing and travels to one that could put it two games under, and the club with the biggest week in this city does not play at all.
Atlanta triple-books a Monday. The game this city hosts tonight enters no standing, the game that moves a division is being played in Louisiana, and the club with the most at stake in October is on a plane.
Braves
Atlanta's Monday is a flight home. The next pitch comes at six o'clock Tuesday evening at Truist Park, with Chris Sale named against Yoshinobu Yamamoto on a schedule feed re-read this morning.
What changed overnight is the shape of the home stand. Dex had the Game 4 guarantee last night: at 1-1 in a best-of-five, Game 3 can only make the series 2-1, which means Game 4 has to be played, and both of those games are in Atlanta. The feed has caught up with the arithmetic. Tuesday and Wednesday are filed as normal games now, and Friday in Los Angeles is the date still carrying the if-necessary flag.
Game 2 gets one line. Both clubs got six hits. Los Angeles hit the two home runs and lost by a run.
Six Atlanta pitchers worked Sunday and the longest outing among them was three and two-thirds innings. Ellis has the rest arithmetic underneath Tuesday's start, and the manager's decision underneath that.
Hawks
Memphis visit State Farm Arena at seven. Preseason runs five dates and three of the four after tonight are out of state: San Antonio on Thursday, Indiana on Saturday, Oklahoma City back here on the 12th, Dallas on the 16th. Both of the home dates are Mondays. A club that opens the regular season on the road gets its two nights in its own building before anything counts, and then it travels.
The jump worth noticing is in what the city hosts rather than in what the Hawks are. Atlanta's home schedule goes from an exhibition at seven o'clock tonight to a Division Series game 23 hours later.
Simone has the availability list and the dates attached to it.
Falcons
Atlanta lost its share of first place in this division on Sunday night without playing a down. Carolina beat Detroit at home and moved to 2-2, alone at the top. Atlanta and New Orleans are both 1-2 and play their fourth game tonight. Tampa Bay are 0-4.
The asymmetry inside that is the part worth carrying into kickoff. Carolina have a fourth result banked; Atlanta are still playing for one, at 8:15 inside the Caesars Superdome, as the road team. A win makes it 2-2 and draws Atlanta level with Carolina on record without drawing it level in the division, because Carolina have already won in Atlanta this season. A loss makes it 1-3. Level on record is not level on the tiebreaker.
That is what a division game in Week 4 is worth. The margins that decide January are assembled out of exactly these nights, months before anybody is counting them.
Miles has the control test on the Green Bay rushing yardage. Dex has what the rest of October asks of this team.
Atlanta United
No match until Saturday, when FC Cincinnati visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 7:30, which makes this a morning for the manager rather than the table. Gerardo Martino is in his first season back. The club announced him on the sixth of November last year on a contract through 2027, after Ronny Deila was dismissed in October, and his first spell here ran through 2017 and 2018 and ended with an MLS Cup.
The restoration has not moved the position. Atlanta United took 28 points from 34 matches in 2025 and finished fourteenth in the Eastern Conference. They have 27 points from 27 matches this morning and sit fourteenth in the Eastern Conference again, fourteenth of fifteen, at a goal difference of minus 13. The return was sold on steadying a defence; that defence has conceded 45 goals in 27 matches.
The rate did move, and the bare point totals hide it. Twenty-eight from 34 is 0.82 points a match. Twenty-seven from 27 is 1.00. A manager hired to restore something has improved what gets measured per match and has not changed what gets printed in the table, which are two different jobs that look identical from a distance.
Tito has the tiebreaker inside that table.
One more thing.
Two of the decisions Atlanta is living with this morning were made by men who do not appear on a roster. Walt Weiss is in his first season managing the Braves and used his best starting pitcher out of the bullpen in a winner-take-all game his club had to win. Martino is in his first season back at a club where the rate has improved and the position has not.
October asks less of a roster than it asks of the people who chose it. A manager's best decision and his worst can be the same decision, graded in two different weeks, and neither grade is available tonight.

The emptiest Monday in Atlanta belongs to the club with the most at stake.

Nobody in Atlanta plays today, and it is the last day this week on which nothing is settled. Friday decides a Cup group game, Saturday a season, and Sunday a home game four thousand miles from home.

Almost everything on Atlanta's board this morning is an estimate - a hip, an ankle, a hamstring, a table position. The exception is a Gold Glove won by a man who filed for free agency three days before it was announced.

There is no NBA game anywhere tonight. Then Atlanta's week arrives all at once — Washington twice inside three days, two fixtures on Saturday, Madrid on Sunday.
